Government is still hiring

You wouldn’t think this country was in one of the deepest recessions since the 1930s, given the number of government jobs being advertised.

In the Guardian today there are 644 jobs advertised. If we assume that the salary range of jobs advertised with no salary specified is £30,000 to £40,000 and that the upper limit of the jobs over £100,000 is £200,000, then the government plans to spend an extra £23,000,000 to £30,000,000 on salaries.

If we further assume that each job is advertised for a month before being filled and these figures are typical, the government will be spending between £275 million and £350 million in extra salaries in one year alone!

Pensions already cost the taxpayer over £100 billion per year.
