Cameron adopts The Plan by Dan Hannan and Douglas Carswell

In a speech to the Open University in Milton Keynes today, Cameron has set out a raft of policies to reform government and make it more accountable to the people. Many of the policies amount to a direct adoption of ideas produced by Dan Hannan and Douglas Carswell in their best-selling book The Plan: Twelve Months to Renew Britain.

The Plan: Twelve Months to Renew Britain clearly sets out their vision of a better Britain and it comes at just the right time, as I blogged a few days ago.

Not since the Winter of Discontent has the public been in such a lather over the state of the UK’s economy and its politics. The public is in a murderous mood, after suffering 12 years under the worst two Prime Ministers in our history – Blair and Brown.

Cameron has judged the public mood accurately and should be handsomely rewarded in the polls.

Update: Dan Hannan calls on the Queen to dissolve Parliament.

  1. Henry North London Says:

He hasnt taken the whole of the Plan on board

    And that is the problem

Without certain elements of the Plan being taken up the rest is just tokenism

In fact you could say its not the whole trifle just the wobbly part.

  2. Fausty Says:

It seems to me that he’s testing the waters. He’d not have taken these steps had Dan not spectacularly catapulted himself into the political stratosphere with his McMental attack.

I’d bet that in coming days, Cameron’s plan will be challenged for the reasons you state. This might serve to push him into more radical adoption of The Plan.

I won’t hold my breath, but am glad the country’s talking about it.

  3. Henry North London Says:

If he has open primaries for Macclesfield and Congleton I might be more convinced

I had a look at him speaking, Hes lying through his teeth You should see how many times he blinks when the policies are mentioned

  4. Faust Says:

Good point. The Wintertons have large majorities.

They all lie. I can’t see him ditching the safe seat scam unless other parties pledge to do the same. Even then, they’ll find a way round it.
